What will the exam be like? 

Exam board:  

AQA A 8062  

Assessment:  

The Religious studies exam is mainly assessed through extended writing and open ended reflective questions. 

Paper 1: The study of religions: beliefs, teachings and practices 

  • 1 hour 45 minutes 
  • 96 marks, plus 6 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) 
  • 50% of GCSE 
  • Students will answer questions on the beliefs, teachings and practices from Christianity and Islam 

Paper 2: Thematic studies 

  • Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes 
  • 96 marks, plus 3 marks for spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) 
  • 50% of GCSE 
  • Students will answer questions on the following themes: 
  • Theme B: Religion and life. 
  • Theme C: The existence of God and revelation. 
  • Theme E: Religion, crime and punishment 
  • Theme F: Religion, human rights and social justice. 

 

What specialist equipment will my child need? 

In order to be successful in GCSE Religious Studies lessons students will need: 

  • Preferred revision tools e.g. flash cards, highlighters etc.

These are optional to buy (and other versions are also available), but we would suggest purchasing some of these to use alongside your course. We will write to parents in the first term of year 10 offering the chance to purchase the following:
