A Tradition of Academic Excellence
The Henry Box School continues to be a centre of educational excellence serving the local community and attracting students from many different schools across Oxfordshire. Students in The Henry Box Sixth Form are part of a vibrant and hardworking community who consistently achieve outstanding A-level results. With very high academic standards, quality care, guidance and support and the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular and sporting activities, there are a number of reasons why so many students choose to join The Henry Box School Sixth Form.
Creating Opportunities for Success
The academic success enjoyed by Henry Box Sixth Form students is based on four key principles that enable students to fulfil their potential.
The Government has changed A levels to become linear qualifications meaning that students will only take exams at the end of two years. Universities are no longer using AS grades when deciding upon offering places and will instead look at the best 3 A level grades achieved. Our KS5 curriculum has moved to a linear model meaning that students will not sit AS exams at the end of Year 12. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) will also be offered to students who wish to study it. The EPQ is a project-based qualification that attracts UCAS points and is well received by universities and employers as it demonstrates high levels of independent learning. Details of this will be delivered to students in September 2018. We recommend most of our students to enrol on 3 A levels when they join us. We can now offer greater flexibility regarding a mix of A levels plus Level 3 BTECs and/or EPQ. A very small number of students may elect to take a 4 A level option. Each student will be invited for a supportive interview to discuss the type and number of subjects with the KS5 team.
Providing Challenge and Support
At The Henry Box School we track student progress in the Sixth Form by using the Advanced Level Performance System (ALPS). Teachers are able to set challenging, achievable targets for students based on their prior performance at GCSE. Each student in the Sixth Form is treated as an individual with a personalised menu of academic targets.
Developing Independent Study Skills
As a member of The Henry Box Sixth Form, students are expected to work hard and develop independent study skills. The students are given guidance and advice on how to develop appropriate skills for Advanced Level independent working by their personal tutor, teachers and the Sixth Form Leadership Team. All students will develop a range of skills that will serve them well throughout their learning journey. A well-resourced Sixth Form Study Centre is available at all times for students to use for independent work.
High Quality Teaching
The main priority of the school in to ensure that students have the best possible tuition. Learning and teaching approaches and lesson design are based on accurate assessment systems and timely intervention.
High Expectations, High Aspiration, High Achievement
An important aspect of our Sixth Form is that we are constantly looking at ways to improve. We have high expectations of both our staff and our students.
Sixth Form Extra-Curricular and Enrichment Activities
Sixth Form students have the opportunity to take part in an extensive range of extra-curricular and enrichment activities/events. These include:

Heads of House and Deputy Heads of House are elected by the school community. The Head Boy and Head Girl are elected by fellow Sixth Form students and they lead the Senior Student Council. This team then form the Sixth Form Leadership Team. They are the public face of the student body and play an important role in representing the school at numerous events throughout the year.
