Qualification title: BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care

Key Stage 4 only

Our Year 10 and 11 students follow the BTEC Tech Award (Edexcel) course. The units consist of two coursework units, one that focuses on human lifespan development and the other on health and social care services and values. Within these units students will develop their ability to research and work independently on an extended writing piece that will make up 30% of their overall qualification. Students will learn how people grow and develop across all of the life stages as well as factors that can impact a person’s development. They will also gain an understanding of the various health and social care professions and how they support the needs of individuals finishing Year 10 with the opportunity to demonstrate the care values themselves in a simulated health and social care situation. Within the examined unit students will learn how to measure and assess various health indicators in order to create health care plans to support an individuals needs.

Throughout the two years students will have opportunities to meet and work with health care professionals gaining valuable insight into potential career pathways they may be interested in. The Tech Award remains a popular choice for students who do not wish to take solely examined subjects for GCSE and those interested in a more independent style of learning. This qualification can take you on to other Level 2 courses that might include placements or work experience, it can also help you to achieve the requirements to go on to Level 3 Health and Social Care qualifications as well as other Level 3 courses at a Sixth Form or college.
